If you love Hilary Swank, you will love her as Amelia Earhart!

We all know who Amelia Earhart (played by Hilary Swank) is and what she is famous for.  This film concentrates on her life as a pilot, and her troubled love life with George Putnam (Richard Gere).  The movie starts with Amelia setting out on her flight around the world in 1937.  The film goes into flashbacks throughout this famous flight.  We see Amelia as a young girl and why she wanted to become a pilot.  We see Amelia meet George for the first time because she wants to fly across the Atlantic, something no woman has done before.  George Putnam is publisher and publicist who wants Amelia to write a book about her journeys.  Once her first flight is completed, he arranges many dinners and talks for Amelia to attend.  Their love for each other develops and as much as she does not want to marry, she agrees to in 1931.

Amelia successfully flies solo across the Atlantic herself in 1932, the only woman in history to have done this.  Her success becomes bigger and her love life starts to fail due to George forcing Amelia to have all these endorsements.  She understands she needs to do this to fund her flights, especially since her next one is her around the world flight.  Amelia starts to fall for Gene Vidal (Ewan McGregor) due to her lack of spending time with George.  Amelia’s first attempt to fly across the world fails with mechanical errors, and Amelia feels that her dreams have been crushed.  But in 1937, she attempts again, and which we all know, ends in tragedy when she vanishes somewhere over the Pacific ocean at the end of her flight.

I already know what has happened to Amelia Earhart through history, but I still was just hoping for her to make it.  This movie is factual, as it also has actual footage, news articles, and pictures of Amelia throughout the film.  I really love U.S. history movies, especially set around the 1930s to 1960s, and I really got into this film.  I was very pleased with the acting and I felt that this important piece of women’s history was coming to life before my eyes.  It was one of the best history movies I have seen, and we see a love story as well!  I was very impressed with Amelia’s determination and fearlessness of flying and just making these trips happen.  In my eyes, Amelia Earhart is one of the most fascinating women figures in U.S. history!

I am a kindergarten teacher and everyday is something new and exciting. I am also a cheerleading coach at Benet Academy. I have a dog named Paisley and a husband named Steve. I absolutely love shopping, beaches, and anything Disney. I also like to read a lot and listen to music, especially country. My favorite genre of movies is romantic comedies, which are the ideal chick flicks!
