August Rush“I believe in music the way some people believe in fairy tales.”

When Lyla Novacek (Keri Russel) and Louis Connelly (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) meet on a rooftop at a party they end up spending the night together. They make plans to meet up again but that doesn’t happen because of Lyla’s father (William Sadler). Even knowing she is pregnant her father still manages to push her buttons. After he upsets her during lunch one day, Lyla gets into a car crash which causes her to give birth prematurely. Her father tells her she lost the baby when in actuality he gave the child up for adoption. Years pass and she finds out her son is alive and she sets out to find him.

Evan Taylor (Freddie Highmore) is the child of Lyla and Louis.  Although he spends his time in an orphanage, he is convinced his parents are out there looking for him.  He claims can hear them though the music. After being humiliated time and again he decides to runaway from the orphanage where he then ends up deep in the heart of New York City. While there he meets Arthur (Leon G. Thomas III), a young boy who is is playing guitar for money. Arthur introduces Evan to Wizard (Robin Williams), who lives with Arthur and other homeless children. Wizard see’s how much talent Evan has and tries to get him gigs posing and his manager.

Wizard gives Evan his stage name as “August Rush” and takes advantage of Evan’s impeccable talent, forcing him to work ferociously on the streets.  After being separated from each other during a police raid, Evan finds shelter at a church.  A reverend at the church notices Evan’s talent and enrolls him in Julliard, where he creates a symphony which he believes will help him find his parents. Evans amazing talents lands him a spot to conduct his symphony in one of the biggest Julliard shows in New York. His parents are both at the show and are reunited with each other and their son.

I personally love this movie. It always keeps my attention and there is never a dull moment. The film does have heartfelt moments, but it’s mostly a feel good movie.  If you ever feel like watching a bit older good movie I defiantly recommend this one!
