Bandslam

Better than I expected for a movie with Disney teen stars!

Will Burton (Gaelann Connell) has a rough time fitting in at school.  He has no friends other than his mom (Lisa Kudrow), and when she announces they are moving to Jersey, he is excited.  On his first day, he notices how different this school is and how obsessed the school is with this competition called Bandslam.  No one knows the new kid and he finds his fit managing a band that wants to compete in Bandslam.  Charlotte (Aly Michalka) sees his love and knowledge for music and makes him manage and bring in new members to the band.  Will also meets Sa5m (Vanessa Hudgens) and they become partners for a human studies project, and along the way, they start to fall for each.  As every teen drama, Will spends all of his time with his new band, and leaves Sa5m in the dark.  He picks music over her by standing her up on their first date, and his new life starts to crumble.  Will also has a secret about his father, that someone finds out throughout his time in his new school.  Charlotte loses her father, and quit the band that she helped form, which makes the band want to give up, but Will is not ready to give up just yet.

Going into this film, I was expecting it to be just like High School Musical or the new version of Fame, but it was more about teenage issues than it was about performing.  We all have secrets, and we all have different ways of dealing with the stress and those deep dark secrets in our lives, and this is what this movie shows in depth, and it just so happens the way to deal is through music.  I thought the movie was pretty good and I think it may be worth a rental.  I think this film is more intended for high school students than anyone else, but if you enjoy those types of films, you will want to add this to your Netflix queue!

I am a kindergarten teacher and everyday is something new and exciting. I am also a cheerleading coach at Benet Academy. I have a dog named Paisley and a husband named Steve. I absolutely love shopping, beaches, and anything Disney. I also like to read a lot and listen to music, especially country. My favorite genre of movies is romantic comedies, which are the ideal chick flicks!
