Ahhh, back in the saddle again!
As I open one of the boxes that contain my movies, I sit and wonder which one I should watch. …mmmm….I know! I’ll choose the one that no matter what goes on in my life or what kind of week I had had, it is sure to put me in a good mood every time.
“Because I said so” is a phrase in everyone’s vocabulary. And it is certainly in the vocabulary of Millie’s mother, Daphne Wilder, who is played by Diane Keaton.
Daphne is a mother like any other mother; she wants the best for her children. She becomes extremely worried about Millie, (Mandy Moore). Unlike her 2 sisters, Maggie (Lauren Graham) and Mae (Piper Perabo), Millie falls into dead-end relationships, and gives up finding true love. Daphne becomes desperate for Millie and places an online ad. Daphne meets the responders, while wearing polka-dots, in a public restaurant/bar and falls madly for the career-oriented, food-savvy, and extremely responsible architect Jason (Tom Everett Scott). Johnny, (Gabriel Macht) who had been playing the guitar at the restaurant, observes the meet and greets and steps in and learns the purpose of the meetings. With Daphne’s secret tactics, she arranges for Millie to cater to one of Jason’s debuts, while wearing polka-dots. Johnny decides to find out where the catering business is and meets Millie. They share an instant and natural attraction. When Daphne learns that Millie has started to date Johnny, she points out his flaws to her; such as, he is a musician, a single parent to Lionel (Ty Panitz), and that he is just ordinary. Comedy mayhem unfolds and frustration levels rise as Millie and her mother battle as far as who is the right guy for her. Millie is torn between Johnny and Jason, but learns that the flaws that her mother pointed out are the exact same reasons why she has truly fallen for Johnny. There is also an unexpected turn of events involving Daphne and Joe, Johnny’s father (Stephen Collins). Yep, you guessed it, they too fall in love. Everyone has fallen in love!
“Lots of heart and plenty of laughs” says it all in this movie! You will find yourself laughing each and every time and will find that you can relate to at least one of the Wilder girls. It’s definitely worth renting and watching twice in a row!
