SYNOPSIS

“Our marriage, their wedding.” It’s lesson number one for any newly engaged couple, and Lucia (America Ferrera) and Marcus (Lance Gross) are no exception. In Fox Searchlight Pictures’ OUR FAMILY WEDDING, they learn the hard way that the path to saying “I do” can be rife with familial strife. When they return from college and too suddenly announce their marriage plans, they soon discover that their fathers – two highly competitive over-the-top egos – can wreak a major amount of havoc on their special day.

With insults flying and tempers running high, it’s anyone’s guess if the alpha dads (Forest Whitaker and Carlos Mencia) will survive to make it down the aisle in one piece. Lucia’s mother (Diana Maria Riva) is busy planning the wedding of “her” dreams and the only levelheaded one in the bunch is Angela (Regina King), the groom’s father’s best friend and lawyer, who manages to keep her cool when the madness reaches a crescendo.

With only weeks to plan their wedding, Lucia and Marcus soon discover the true meaning of love and find there is truth to the saying – that when you marry someone, you marry their entire family.

OUR FAMILY WEDDING is directed by Rick Famuyiwa from an original screenplay written by Rick Famuyiwa, Malcolm Spellman, and Wayne Conley. The film is produced by Ed Saxon and Steven Wolfe. Linda Burton (CADILLAC RECORDS) is the production designer, the director of photography is Julio Macat (WEDDING CRASHERS) with costume designer Hope Hanafin ([500] DAYS OF SUMMER), Editor Dirk Westervelt (NOTORIOUS) and music composed by The Transcenders (“Gossip Girl”).

I went to a wedding in 2001 and the groom was drunk, he had to be held up by his best man, and then got into an fistfight with his new brother in law that ended the marriage before the honeymoon even begun.

I went to my cousin’s wedding. It brought together many family members that I rarely see, including my cousin’s divorced parents who had to be seated far apart. But that wasn’t the best part. The bride lost her engagement ring while getting ready and everyone was scrambling to find it!

A quirky moment for me was on my very own wedding day 11 years ago to my wonderful…and crazy husband Josh. Okay so you know the part in the wedding when the groom takes the brides gader to toss to the guests…well my husband wanted to take mine off in a very sexy-like manner. I felt very uncomfortable and awkward because I come from a very religious and conservative family and all eyes…from my side of the family were on me!!! I know they were thinking, “Would she allow him to do this to her in public??” I’m happy to say that I went along with it but at the end of it all I got a 30 minute lecture from my mother and grandmother on how inappropriate that was!! : ( But I had the best wedding party and I wouldnt change a thing from that day! I still love you mom!!!

At my sister’s wedding, her fiance was late for the ceremony because he was at a strip club, they didn’t end up getting married.

  23. Sue says

Before my sister’s wedding it was a mad house. I was only a teenager and she asked me to be her maid of honor. I knew nothing of the responsibilities. I was surprised she did not ask her best friend. But I luckily had very little responsibility except to help when she needed me and to hold onto the hair pins. Luckily the ceremony went without a hitch. Years later, I wish the marriage had gone on without a hitch.

A few years ago, I was in a good Friends wedding. Everything was beautiful and seem to be going on time until the bride was notified that her parents’ driver was lost. My friend was a total wreck. And her parents made it to the church two hours late!!! So much for being on time!

My friend had a very small wedding ceremony which was held in a conference-type room at a hotel. Unbeknownst to the guests, there was no music to be played when the bride walked “down the aisle”. As the bride strolled towards her groom, she started to hum the ‘Wedding March” and asked the guests to do the same and join in! Yikes!!!!

  46. Brian says

the last wedding I went to was my cousins. It was a great wedding, set in a old country mansion down in Texas. Had plenty of fun and a great time. The only mishap I think that happened was that they didn’t plan on enough food for everyone afterwards. Lots of hungry people. My favorite thing was the morning of the wedding I met the preacher at the hotel. I was standing in the breakfast line and a man dressed in full Harley Davidson motorcycle gear introduced himself as the preacher. Yes that is right the preacher came on a Harley , full beard and riding a hog. He did wear a suit for the wedding thank goodness . But, I had a hard time believing him when he told me who he was. Sure enough he did a great job .

  47. Sheena E. McNeal says

The worst part of weddings is being in one. I was a matron of honor and the bride drove me nuts. She was so cheap and didn’t buy us any gifts. Plus she went to MAC and got her makeup done the day before for free, slept on it, and wore the same makeup to her wedding. It was caked-on and gross.

Went to a wedding once outdoors. By a golf course. It was being filmed. People were swearing loudly on the golf course. Of course, it got on the wedding tape.

  50. Nisha says

I once went to a wedding where apparently the bride had slept with the best man. During the ceremony, the best man ended up objecting to their marriage. Them two actually ended up getting married that day. It was actually quite sad because the groom had paid for everything.
