Movies Men Can Pass off as Chick Flicks

Something that is often asked and searched for is “What are good chick flicks guys will enjoy?”  There are a lot of lists out there of chick flicks like Failure to Launch and How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, but women already know about those movies…. Here’s our list of movies that might not be geared towards women, but ones they’ll actually end up enjoying.  After all, the films on this list all follow the recipe for a romantic comedy.

Mean Girls

Upfront Mean Girls seems like a typical high school coming of age movie for teenage girls (especially with Lindsay Lohan in the lead role), but it’s actually a lot more adult oriented.  Think of this more as 30 Rock set in high school and you’ll get a better idea of what Tina Fey was going for.

Groundhog Day

A lot of people don’t consider this a chick flick, so let me break it down for you.  Guy wants girl, girl hates guy, guy has epiphany and character growth, girl realizes it, and they fall in love to live happily ever after.  That’s one of the few equations for chick flicks.  Bill Murray is the reason this movie is so good, anybody else in the role would not have went over so well.  Living the same day over and over again seems like it would be mundane, but he makes it hiliarous.

That Thing You Do!

This one is easy to sum up.  A rock band in 1964 makes it big because of a love song written about the singers girlfriend (Liv Tyler).  They go on tour, hilarity ensues.  As long as you can take hearing the same song over and over, you’ll be able to enjoy this one.

Anything by Pixar

You’re probably aware of this so I’m not going to say much about it.  If Pixar made it, it’s enjoyable by everyone.  Toy Story is our favorite, followed by UP!, Finding Nemo, and then Ratatouille.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Again, this might not seem like a typical chick flick, but it’s a standard romantic comedy.  It’s a little on the stranger side, but as long as your lady can handle that and the fact that it doesn’t have your usual romantic comedy, this is an excellent date night choice.

Stranger Than Fiction

Will Farrell is a little bit out of hit element, but it works wonderfully for him. Will’s character hears a person narrating his life, and he’s the only one who’s able to hear her.  The overtone of the movie is a little bit dreary (the narrator is determined to kill him), he even tries to figure out if he’s in a comedy or a tragedy (he determines the latter). But, above all, the film revolves around a love story.

Punch Drunk Love

Adam Sandler plays a very withheld entrepreneur named Barry Egan.  He never takes risks and he lets his seven sisters walk all over him.  The film follows Barry as he takes a chance on a girl one of his sisters sets him up with.  He is determined not to let her in, even though that’s what he needs most.

Walk The Line

Who doesn’t love Johnny Cash?  Walk The Line is about the like of Johnny Cash and his long time wife June Carter.  There’s love, drugs, sex, and rock n’ roll to please you and your lady.
