Confessions of a Shopaholic

51fSpCvoY8L-1._SL500_AA240_For someone who reads books before seeing movies and shops til I drop, I was very disapointed with Confessions of a Shopaholic.  The movie portrays a young woman named Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) who is obssessed with shopping.  She buys anything and everything that catches her eye.  Once she lands a job for a financial journal, she starts to fall for her boss Luke Brandon (Hugh Dancy).  Throughout the movie we see the struggles of Becky’s shopping experiences, money issues, and her love for Luke.  Becky is so wrapped up in her shopping and massive debt that she forgets how important her friends and family are, and gets herself into a big bind when it comes to her best friend Suze (Krysten Ritter) and her wedding.  Joan Cusack and John Goodman also star as Rebecca Bloomwood’s parents.  Like all chick flicks, this movie definatley has that happy ending that everyone always wants to see!

Released to DVD at the end of June, I felt the movie lacked a lot of important details and facts from the book.  I have read almost the whole Shopaholic series and the books are just great!  They are funny and a great read for women who love to shop and gossip!  As for the movie, the director took small details from the books “Confessions of a Shopaholic” and “Shopaholic Takes Manhattan”, both written by Sophie Kinsella, and combines them into one film.  The movie does not show enough of Becky’s shopping extravaganza’s and money issues.  All of the characters are supposed to be from London, and they are all portrayed living in New York City.  The only one who has an English accent is Hugh Dancy. However, we do see how in debt Rebecca is.  All the crazy solutions and  ideas she has to get herself out of debt, which only seem to backfire, give the movie the comedy that it needs.  I feel that Fisher plays a great Rebecca Bloomwood, who is perky and giddy, and if they ever decide to make more movies about the shopaholic, she would be great.

The movie has a lot of comedic opportunities and some women may find themselves in the same bind as Rebecca Bloomwood’s character.  It would not be a movie that I would see again and I would not recommend this to be a movie to make your significant other see!  Not only will they be bored, but they might think you have the same shopping addictions!

I am a kindergarten teacher and everyday is something new and exciting. I am also a cheerleading coach at Benet Academy. I have a dog named Paisley and a husband named Steve. I absolutely love shopping, beaches, and anything Disney. I also like to read a lot and listen to music, especially country. My favorite genre of movies is romantic comedies, which are the ideal chick flicks!
