I could not simply let this masterpiece of film making slip by when I noticed it on my Netflix queue. This might possibly be the worst movie I have ever seen, but then again I knew what I was getting my self into…but I couldn’t resist! Cool as Ice (1991) features the Vanilla Ice and I didn’t want to let this movie get away without a descent review!
Johnny (Vanilla Ice) is a cool punk kid who rides into this small town on his neon yellow motorcycle. Unfortunately, his friend’s bike is in need of some repair and he and his friends are stranded in this small town for a few days. Johnny comes across a daddy’s darling girl, Kathy (Kristin Minter). Although his punk persona is at first a turn off, we learn that Kathy has a rock-star side to her that she never knew she had in her. Kathy and Johnny fall for each other, but wait, here’s the twist! Kathy finds out her mother and father enlisted in the witness protection program (yes, that’s what I said) before she was born and are basically living a fake life. There are two goons who are now out to get her family as they have discovered her parents’ true identity.
Kathy is forbidden to speak or see Johnny as his parents believe that he is a part of this conspiracy out to get them. When Kathy’s little brother is kidnapped, Johnny and his punk gang save the day. Johnny finds Kathy’s little brother at an abandoned construction site and miraculously drives his motorcycle through the drywall and beats the bad guys. Daddy learns that Johnny is not the bad guy and everyone lives happily ever after.
Now was I expecting movie magic when I watched this one….no. However, I will note that I was finding myself eerily attracted to Vanilla Ice throughout the movie. I was definitely not attracted to his acting technique, but the few music videos interspersed in the movie were to die for! I believe my favorite portion of the movie was the awesome early 90′s fashion and taking a trip down memory lane. If you are seeking a deep movie plot, moving scenery, award-winning acting, and an ingenious sound score, you may want to look somewhere else. However, if you are in a quirky mood to see some pretty funny 90′s attire and to see Vanilla Ice lay down some sweet rap lines, then I recommend Cool as Ice.

it pains me that somewhere someone sometime in the 90s put money up for this film fully convinced that it was a good idea, but at the same time it looks quite comical and kind of awesome.
My thoughts exactly.
oh MAN. this looks fantastic.
and by the way, it’s not going to be easily forgotten that you were ATTRACTED TO VANILLA ICE!!!
You just watch the movie and then you will understand what I am talking about!!
