I decided to watch a movie that I enjoy watching over and over again. This movie is charmingly funny as I always find myself laughing each and every time. It reminds me of a “chick flick,†but since the main character is a man…..maybe it can be called a …â€dude flick?â€
Dan Burns (Steve Carell) is a columnist for a newspaper who gives advice pertaining to pretty much any subject pertaining to family issues. He lives by giving his advice, but only until he experiences life’s spontaneous moments for himself. Every year, Dan and his family get together for a weekend fun of family bondage. One morning, Dan is driven away by his mother to escape the attitudes of his three daughters. He goes to get a few newspapers from a book store, and this is where he bumps into Marie (Juliette Bionche) who he falls in love with instantly. Dan and Marie share an instant quirky attraction that they can not seem to get enough of. After realizing how much time has passed, they both continue on their separate ways.
After arriving back to his parent’s home, he can not wait to tell everyone who he had met…..Until, his brother, Mitch Burns, (Dane Cook) introduces his new girlfriend, who happens to be Marie, the same “bookstore†Marie. Dan and Marie are both tortured by their secret of attraction. Not only is Dan and Mitch falling for the same woman, so is the entire Burns Family.
Not only is there pressure in Dan’s love life, his daughters are also giving him grief. Each of his daughters is going through a different part of their life, one of whom is also going through “love†herself. Also, there is an opportunity for Dan when he gets a phone call to find out that some representatives are interested in him from a syndicated publication, and they will be coming to the Rhode Island vacation home to interview him.
The pressure is too much for Marie, and she breaks up with Mitch and decides to leave. She then is in touch with Dan right away and he meets her at the local bowling alley. The family then comes looking for Dan, as the representatives are at the house for Dan’s interview, and this is where the family catches both Dan and Marie kissing. Mitch then hits Dan. Dan admits to his family and representatives that he has been neglecting his daughters and ignoring his own advice that he has been giving to people. His daughters convince him to go to New York to find Marie, and that is just what the four of them had done.
