Duplicity shines a rare and new light on corporate America as it reveals in great detail the lengths that major companies will go to to protect their new product information. Â Julia Roberts and Clive Owen co-star in this drama, both spies for their respective companies who are trying to get their hands on the next big thing which happens to be, you guessed it: a cure for baldness. Â What Roberts and Owen don’t know, however, is that their love affair that they’re trying so desperately to keep under wraps has been blown wide open. Â This is bad news for their characters Claire and Ray, as they decide to start working toward making their own fortune once they steal the formula for the ever-so-coveted cure for baldness. Â Challenge after challenge arises for the dynamic duo in their relationship romantically and professionally as they attempt to execute their plan, despite their blatant lack of trust in each other and the dirt their companies have on them and their budding romance.
It must be fantastic to not only be able to afford to fly all over creation for romantic getaways with your lover, but also to be able to drop everything and do so whenever you very well please. Â The scenery in Duplicity is fantastic and the music conveys a certain flippancy which provides quite a lovely contrast to the depth of the plot, although not always clearly understood.
This film has it all – two strong, esteemed actors in the lead roles, moments of suspense, plot twisting, and all with a sprinkle of sass, passion and romance which provides a perfect cherry to top off this delectable sundae.  A little action for the guys, a little flirtation for the girls.  Way to go Julia and Clive for keeping us interested and guessing, and hats off to Oscar-winning writer/director Tony Gilroy for a wonderful film.  I highly recommend it!  And what better weekend than Labor Day weekend to relax and pop in a great flick – it’s supposed to be rainy anyway… at least where I am ;o)
