Easy Virtue

easy virtueI really enjoyed watching this sophisticated romance story which was based on a play.  This movie takes place in the flapper time period, 1928, which is the time that I would truly loved to have lived if I had a choice.  This movie did have the play/musical feel, but after tuning in a bit longer that feeling had past.  I absolutely loved the music which had precisely set the mood for each scene.  The wardrobe was sensational as well, mainly for Larita, (Jessica Biel).  Truthfully, I really didn’t pay much attention to the men whereas the women dresses were both chic and refined!

A conservative British family, who lives in the country, is having a hard time accepting an American, who comes from the city, to be welcomed in their family.  Whether it is the fresh country air sneezes, the most annoying barking dog, to the prudishness to Larita’s new husband’s family.  It seems that the one person that she feels most comfortable with is her husband’s father.  Larita’s personality is care-free and seductive which is contagious with the fellows, but the country women are jealous and envious of her confidence and believe to be that she is a “nightmare.”  There are scandals that are unveiled, but of course, I had to leave out. Larita proves to John that he does not truly love her, and the friction between her “American” ways and the Whitaker family are not compatible and leaves.

Aside the tango dance scene, one of my favorite parts of the movie was the classic can-can dance, which was both provocative and humorous.

This movie is definitely highly recommendable!!  There is no excuse for anyone to not watch this movie.  After watching the movie, you should definitely watch the movie again with the commentary on; there were lots of interesting facts with the background about the film.
