Elf

Elf_posterIt’s time for everyone’s favorite Christmas movie!  (or at least mine)  Elf was scheduled for December 11 on our Christmas Movie Marathon and I couldn’t wait to pop it in!  I hope everyone has see this movie.  But for those of you who are living in Christmas past, I’ll give you a brief synopsis.

Buddy, played by Will Ferrell, is stowed away on Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve.  He is adopted by Papa Elf (Bob Newhart) and the North Pole community, only he’s no elf-he’s a human trying to play an elf!  As an adult, Buddy eventually finds out he was actually adopted.  Santa allows him to travel to New York City to find his family.  Buddy tracks down his birth father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan) who is work-aholic scrooge who never has time for anybody-including his own family.  Buddy is a “fish-out-of-water” in this new human world, and brings the Christmas spirit with him.  Buddy eventually begins to soften his father’s heart and gets him to reevaluate the importance of his family and to believe in the true spirit of Christmas.

will_ferrell2I LOVE Will Ferrell and he never seems to let me down.  I think Elf is one of his most brilliant comedic films.  There are so many one-liners that adore and love quoting over and over again!  Also- Zooey Deschanel plays Jovie, a girl who is curiously interested in Buddy.  I LOVE her voice and she has some key singing parts in the film.  Elf is an original story and I can think of no others like it.  I love that this is a unique tale and helps put our crazy marketing Christmas culture into perspective.  Buddy loves Christmas because of the simple pleasures and joys that go with it.  I think it’s important to remember that the holidays are about your friends and family and the enjoyment of the holiday.  Are you all warm and fuzzy inside, yet?!

Elf is my fave and gets 5 Christmas Stars.  Favorite line from this film is when he answers the phone at his father’s desk:  “Buddy the Elf, what’s your favorite color?”  If you’ve actually read this far down on my review-leave me a comment of what YOUR favorite line is in this movie.  There’s so many to choose from!
