Robert DeNiro stars as Frank Goode, the father of four children and a widower. Â After his wife died, his children just did not seem to keep in touch with him. Â Frank had an entire weekend planned for all of the kids to come visit, which they ironically all cancelled on him. Â Frank decides to make a trip across the country to see all his children, which his doctor highly recommends he stays at home due to his health. Â Frank hops on a bus and goes to visit his son David in New York. Â Frank sits outside his apartment building, and David never comes, so he slips an envelope under his door, and off he goes to Chicago to see his next child, Amy (Kate Beckinsale). Â She is so surprised to see him, and wants to know why and how he got there. Â Meanwhile, all the children have been discussing David, who seems to be in trouble, but they are all just doing their best to keep their dad happy and let them know that they are happy.
Amy comes up with an excuse to get him on to the next child, so Frank leaves to visit his son Robert (Sam Rockwell).  Robert knows he is coming, but acts surprised to see him.  He too, comes up with an excuse for his father to leave and puts him on a train to see his daughter Rosie (Drew Barrymore).  Rosie, just like the rest of the family, puts on a happy face to show how happy she is, but because of a shortening of  medication, Frank decides to head home.  During his whole trip, he realizes that something is just not right about visiting his kids, and finds out that his wife knew all the drama and real-life situations his children are going through, while he just sits back and soaks in the good news.  Frank comes to terms with this and the truth comes rushing to him.
Everybody’s Fine is a great family drama, and a must see family flick. Â I feel that is portrays many of the problems we witness in society today in our own homes. Â It is a very emotional film, and I cried throughout the whole ending. Â I also enjoyed that the mystery behind never seeing the fourth child and being confused about everything until the very end where everything just fits. Â I was very impressed with the movie, even though I did not think this was a film for tears. Â Lastly, I feel that many of us feel that they can open up to one parent more than the other, and one we love is gone, it is hard to move on and replace them. Â I really enjoyed the film, and I hope that you enjoy it too!
