Funny Girl is an epic “Barbara” movie that could never get old. Sensing I needed a little more nostalgia in my life, I decided to put this one on during a lazy day. Inspired by the glitz and glamor Barbara and Omar Sharif had to give, I was wistfully swept off my feet during this retro chick flick.
Funny Girl is the story of Fannie Brice, played by Barbara Streisand. A struggling comedienne, Fannie is a young Jewish girl looking for a break. With a strong will, she winds up being the star girl in the Zeigfeld Follies and happens to fall in love with the ever stunning debonair, Nick Arnstein, played by Omar Sharif. The film follows Fannie through the ups and down of her career and marriage. Trickled with comedy and flair, Funny Girl captures Streisand and Sharif at their historical best.
Unbeknownst to me, this film was rather lengthy, a whopping 150 minutes! Regardless, this is a telling tale of a life we all wish we had. Concoct yourself a martini and a big bowl of popcorn and enjoy!
