I have to be honest about this movie and say that this is one of the strangest and most random love-story movies I have ever seen. Brian (Paul Dano) is a mattress salesman who sells an extremely overpriced bed to Henrietta’s father, played by John Goodman. The love story begins when Henrietta aka “Happy†(Zooey DeSchanel) comes in to pay for and make arrangements for the mattress to be delivered. There are lots of quirky and awkward scenes that take place between the two. For instance, while Brian is delivering the mattress, he is asked on a whim if he would take Happy’s father to the doctor….keeping in mind that this is the 2nd time of actually seeing each other. The 3rd time of meeting takes place at dinner with Happy’s father and his “friend†where he interrogates Brian regarding his desire to adopting a Chinese baby and questioning his intentions with Happy….which was a bit fast forward for me. Despite all of the quirky scenes, the attraction grows stronger between the two strangers.
I have no idea on how the title came about as “Gigantic,†as I really did not see the relativity to the plot of the movie, but I did come up with the following assumptions….
1. Maybe since Happy’s father is bigger than most men and has to lie down in every vehicle that rides in?…..
2. Maybe it was because it was Brian’s life-long dream to adopt a Chinese baby?….
3.  Or if someone out there has or plans on watching the movie…..Please enlighten me on your thoughts….
The homeless man played by Zach Galifianakis also confused me entirely throughout the movie. There was no understood motive for his random beatings. In the special features, I was hoping that there was some explanation for any of the movie, but there were only deleted and alternate scenes. In one of the alternate scenes, Brian states, “It’s finally over…. It’s finally over,†after he walks away from stabbing the homeless man. So my interpretation was that maybe that the homeless guy was a parallel link of some sort for Brian wanting to adopt the Chinese baby….Since it seems Brian was able to adopt after the overly aggressive homeless man was dead.
Despite the slow paced movie, I do not regret seeing the movie. This movie was not only about the attraction between Brian and Happy that grew into love…but, also the strong desire to give love to a child that is need of someone who is wanting to give it.

i forgot about this movie! i really wanted to see it and never did! i shall add it to my list!
Hey! I finally made it to chickflickreviews.net! Did you know that chickflickreviews.net is coming up on spell check and when I right click the word, the suggested spelling is telling me I should use the word, “chickenhearted”. I have no idea what that means… I am tempted to look it up in the wonderful Webster’s dictionary. Anyways. I couldn’t help but not have a smile on my face when I was reading your review. I can just picture you saying, ” What the hell?” during the whole movie. Haha.. I never even heard of this movie… a Chinese baby huh… that makes me what to watch it. So I hope you’re happy that I made it to the page! Finally…
So….I looked up the word “chickenhearted” and the definition is as follows….just in case anybody else was wondering……:
