After hopping from foster home to foster home Andi (Emma Roberts) and Bruce (Jake T. Austin) land themselves with the ultimate duo of wannabe rockstar foster parents, Lois and Carl Scudder (Lisa Kudrow and Kevin Dillon). Pets are forbidden in the Scudder household which forces Andi and Bruce to safely hide their dog, Friday.
Andi and Bruce stumble across an abandoned hotel and find it to be the perfect place for Friday to hideout. Andi and Bruce team up with fellow dog lovers, Dave (Johnny Simmons), Heather (Kyla Pratt) and Mark (Troy Gentile) and begin rescuing lots of dogs.
Bruce uses his genius skills to create a ball toss gadget, a doggie toilet with poop chute, a wind blown car ride simulator, and a dog food assembly line that delivers the food to each dog at the dinner table. It’s a doggie heaven.
The five kids decide to overtake the local animal care and control by listening over the airwaves and tracking stray dogs. With a little bit of sneaky trickery the kids manage beat ACC to the scene and rescue the dogs and bring them back to the hotel.
The Scudders accuse Bruce of stealing from them and a runaway Bruce accidentally leads the Scudders, along with the police, to the hotel. Andi and Bruce end up in separate orphanages and all of the dogs are taken to animal care and control.
In fear of the dogs being euthanized the kids devise a master plan to get them back. Rescuing these dogs is so important to Andi and Bruce because they know what it is like to be a stray, longing for a loving home.
Hotel for Dogs is a great movie for any age. It is definitely geared towards children but it’s a movie that I could watch over and over. It teaches children about the importance of rescuing animals and adopting from animal shelters while giving insight to the reality of animal overpopulation. I think it’s great to illustrate children dedicating their time to saving animals and hopefully it will empower others to do so.
Additionally, there are about fifty cutie patootie doggies in this movie! Hotel for Dogs is a heartwarming family friendly film that is definitely worth Netflixing!
