I Love You, Man

i-love-you-man-posterPaul Rudd (The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Role Models) and Jason Segel (Marshall on How I Met Your Mother, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) make quite a dynamic duo in this hugely enjoyable (yes, I took that right off the DVD cover) film – one of the few to keep me laughing the whole way through since Hitch hit theaters in 2005.

Friendless Peter Klaven (Rudd) is a real estate agent who is newly engaged to his girlfriend of 8 months, Zooey (Rashida Jones), and is desperately trying to find someone to be his best man at their wedding.  After a series of unsuccessful man-dates, Klaven meets Sydney Fife (Segel) at an open house at Lou Ferrigno’s mansion.  The two strike up a conversation, exchange business cards, and so begins the journey of their exquisite bromance – one man who’s grown up without friends, and one who just hasn’t quite grown up.  Conflict arises when Zooey feels that Peter is sharing too much personal information about their relationship  with Sydney, and Peter is forced to choose between the two – who will it be?  His fiancee, or the only real friend he’s ever had?

My husband and I saw this movie for the first time in theaters, and we’ve been waiting for this day ever since – the day it would come out on DVD that is, so we could add it to our own collection.  Jason Segel already holds a special place in my heart (I’m a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother – CBS Mondays 8pm ET, 7pm Central), and his chemistry with Paul Rudd in this movie is phenomenal.  It’s dude humor, it’s goofy humor, it’s humor vomit all over the place.  I wouldn’t recommend this for family movie night, but if you’re looking for a great flick to kick back with a co-ed group of friends – heck yes!  And if you’re anything like me, keep a napkin or a clean sleeve nearby… I may have laughed so hard that I drooled on myself…  I’m just saying.

Hell-ooooooo! I'm Maribeth, I'm 27 and I love movies! I try to be optimistic in my reviews because someone, somewhere worked hard to complete every film, but there comes a time when you must call a spade a spade.
