Insidious centers on a young family that moves into a new home. Â Renai (Rose Byrne), Josh (Patrick Wilson), and their three children, are still in the middle of unpacking and settling in when Renai starts to notice mysterious events and unexplainable noises throughout the house.
One day while playing, their son Dalton goes up to the attic to investigate a noise. He ends up falling off a ladder, but does not seem to have any major injuries. The next morning though, Josh is unable to wake Dalton. Renai and Josh rush Dalton to the hospital where they learn that he is in a coma. The doctors perform a battery of tests, but they are unable to explain Dalton’s condition. All his test results are normal. Ultimately the Lamberts bring Dalton home, but he remains in a coma.
With Dalton back at home, Renai notices an increasing number of strange occurrences. She finds herself alone at home with the children more frequently as Josh has been working late. Â Renai finally expresses to Josh just how uncomfortable she feels in their home and that she wants to move. Initially, Josh just thinks that Renai is dealing with too much stress, but soon thereafter even Josh can not ignore the possibility that the house may be haunted. So, the Lamberts pack up yet again and move to a new house.
After only a few days in their new home, the supernatural events start up again and they seem to be even more threatening. Although Josh does not know what to make of his wife’s most recent claims, Josh’s mom on the other hand (Barbara Hershey) believes Renai and offers to contact a friend of hers named Elise (Lin Shaye). Elise is a highly trained professional that deals with the paranormal and supernatural. Based on Elise’s findings, Renai and Josh finally learn the truth about Dalton’s condition and they also find out that the evil threat is real.
The makers of Saw and Pananormal Activity are behind this movie, so I went to the theater with pretty high expectations. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the film as much as I had hoped. I am big horror fan and I know some plot lines are pretty far-fetched (i.e Freddy or Jason or Chucky), but I still buy into them. However, the plot for this film was way too out there for me. It is a little hokey and too predictable for my taste. In spite of a lack luster plot, the filmmakers deserve recognition for their gift of suspense. They did an amazing job with it in Paranormal Activity and they do not disappoint with this film. Not to mention there are a few images from the film that are so creepy that they have stayed with me. It has made going to bed at night a little more interesting. If you enjoy horror flicks you might as well check this one out. You just might want to wait until it is available on DVD.

dang, i know this film got some really great reviews, but it looks like every other horror movie right now to me. but your review does seem more honest. thanks for sharing!
