Danny (Adam Sandler) is a plastic surgeon who runs his own practice with the help of his office assistant, Katherine (Jennifer Aniston). Danny and Katherine have worked together for roughly ten years and are quite comfortable with each other. They have no problems sharing intimate details about their personal lives. For example, Katherine knows that for years Danny has been getting women by using a fake wedding ring and concocting horrible stories about his fictitious wives. Naturally, when Danny meets Palmer (Brooklyn Decker), he tells Katherine all about it. Ironically, Danny didn’t use his wedding ring scheme to lure Palmer in. She actually found the ring by accident. Of course this happens the one time Danny genuinely feels like his relationship could develop into something special. Instead of telling Palmer the truth and looking like a schmuck, Danny decides that it is best to tell Palmer that he is in the process of getting a divorce. Danny thinks he is in the clear with his story except Palmer wants to meet his soon-to-be ex-wife.
Needless to say, Danny asks Katherine to pose as his future ex-wife named Devlin. That name is significant because it happens to be the name of Katherine’s archenemy from college. Of course Katherine is reluctant to help at first, but a makeover and a shopping trip on Rodeo Drive helps change her mind. Not to mention Danny said it would be a quick meet and greet and then Katherine will never have to interact with Palmer again. At least that was the plan until an ill-timed phone call reveals that Katherine has kids, which by default means that so does Danny. Katherine and Danny are in it too deep to come clean to Palmer, so Danny has to make up yet another tall tale about his fake family.
Seeing as Danny and Palmer’s relationship is getting serious, the next step is for her to meet his kids. Danny does some serious negotiating with Katherine’s kids to get them to pretend to be his son and daughter and meet Palmer. Everything goes just fine until Michael (Griffin Gluck), Katherine’s son, cons Danny into funding a family trip to Hawaii, so he can swim with the dolphins.
All everyone has to do is keep up the charade for one week and Danny can be with Palmer. No problem, right? Wrong. Before this blended family even gets to Hawaii, a fake boyfriend for Katherine/Devlin falls into the mix. To make matters even more complicated, once they arrive on the big island the real Devlin (Nicole Kidman) appears. So, to keep Palmer from learning the truth, Danny and Katherine are forced to cover up one lie after another.
This film is pretty entertaining and filled with some laughs as long as you take it for what it is worth. I hate to be this cheesy, but if you do as the film suggests “just go with it,” you might just like it. I enjoy Adam Sandler and I love some of his earlier movies like the Wedding Singer and Big Daddy. This movie is not quite as funny as the two previously mentioned, but it definitely has its moments. It even has some heartfelt sweet scenes. Kudos to Jennifer Aniston as she did a good job. Nicole Kidman and Dave Matthews deserve a mention because they add to the ridiculousness of it all (in a good way). Your best bet is to probably catch this as a rental.

I love chick flicks.
