Will Ferrell unleashes his comedic genius, once again, in Land of the Lost, a movie that will have you laughing throughout and keep your imagination rolling!
Dr. Rick Marshall (Ferrell) is a scientist who poses a theory of Time Warp, but is embarrassingly denied by his fellow colleagues. He lives his life reminiscing of what his invention, the tachyon amplifier, could have become. In the midst of his nostalgia, Holly Cantrell (Anna Friel) finds Dr. Marshall and gives him a fossil that is millions of years old, but is a molding of a cigarette lighter, thus proving that alternate dimensions do exist. She is able to convince him to tinker with his tachyon amplifier and test it out. The couple heads to a cheesy Devils Cave attraction, where the fossil was found, and encounter a tour guided by Will Stanton (Danny McBride). Marshall activates the tachyon amplifier and the three are transported to an alternate universe where time lines combine!
The three explorers discover this new universe is not as it seems. They meet a hysterical ape man, Cha-Ka (Jorma Taccone who is also part of the comedy trio The Lonely Island of SNL fame) who helps the team maneuver their way through this foreign dimension. Marshall and his crew come into contact with the Sleestak community, bug-eyed aliens who are ruled by the evil Zarn. Marshall steps into an alternate dimension and meets Enik, a Sleestak who has been banned and sent to this alternate dimension as punishment from his community. Enik begs Marshall to help him take down Zarn so he can save his world. Lots of adventure later, Marshall, Holly, and Will learn that Enik is actually the real villain and they were being tricked this whole time. They must fight Enik and his army of Sleestaks to save this dimension, and ours!
Land of the Lost is an inventive movie full of “Ferrel-like” laughs! There were so many unique scenarios and action throughout the movie. Will Ferrell pulls out his hilarious one-liners that were obviously improv which made the movie even funnier. The alternate universe had its weird moments, but it was great to sit back and not have to sort through a complicated plot. This is a fun story that is loaded with comedy! Land of the Lost is now out on DVD and I think it is a movie that can be added to any Will Ferrell collection. I am giving this film a 4 star rating…definitely worth added to the collection because it’s always a guaranteed laugh.
I don’t know if I would put Land of the Lost over Elf or Anchorman, but I would put it in Will Ferrell’s top 5 movies he’s been in. If you’ve seen this movie, let me know what you thought, and if you think this is one of Ferrell’s best movies yet!
