“One Master. One Student. One Summer To Dream.”

John (Trevor Morgan) an 18-year-old boy is determined to become an painter, constantly drawing male nudes while locked away in his room. His father, John Sr. (Ray Liotta, and from here-out referred to as ‘Senior’), questions Johns interest in art, and just assumes his son is a homosexual because of John’s subject choice. Senior would much rather have John playing sports and be chasing girls. He just doesn’t see what, how, or why John does what he does. This is not your ‘typical’ father son relationship.

Things only get worse when John tells his mother and father he wants to spend the summer with Nicoli (Armin Mueller-Stahl), an alcoholic “Russian Master” with breath-taking painting aesthetic. Against his parents wishes, John goes and spends the summer with Nicoli in Pennsylvania, where Nicoli is supposed to teach John how to become a better artist. Nicoli’s method of teaching isn’t exactly what John had in mind, and this starts the real conflict of the film.

This movie has beautiful scenery and great shots of the countryside. I think this film may appeal more to artists as there is a lot of art language in it. I do have to say it didn’t keep my attention as much as I thought it would. I found myself playing with my cat “Mr. Biggles” more than I was watching the movie.

It sounds like playing with Mr. Biggles is better than this movie. Doesn’t sound like my kind of film.
