Jamie (Jake Gyllenhaal) is good looking, charming, and from a successful family. Both his father and sister are doctors and his baby brother struck it rich playing the stock market. Although Jamie has the smarts for medical school, he decided he couldn’t sit through class and didn’t want to give his dad the satisfaction. So, he became an electronics salesman (that is until his way with the ladies got him fired). After that whole debacle, Jamie’s brother, Josh (Josh Gad), suggests that he try pharmaceutical sales.
In an attempt to meet his sales goals and defeat his rival, Trey Hannigan (Gabriel Macht), Jamie comes up with this plan to shadow Dr. Stan Knight (Hank Azaria). And that is how Jamie meets Maggie (Anne Hathaway). Maggie plays by her own rules. She can see right through Jamie’s charm and tricks and she’s not having any of it. Naturally, Jamie is intrigued and completely fascinated by Maggie. A few HIPAA violations later, Jamie gets Maggie’s phone number and somehow manages to get her to agree to a coffee date. At first, Jamie and Maggie agree to keep things casual, but things get complicated very quickly. And the rest they say is history…
This movie deals with life’s more difficult issues and choices. It also raises awareness about Parkinson’s disease. It’s nice when Hollywood uses its power to shed light on issues and causes that are not always at the forefront of people’s minds (even if it is by way of a chickflick). There are enough laughs though to keep this movie from being depressing or a total tear jerker. The chemistry between Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal was so real and believable. They both did a good job with their characters. Josh Gad contributed a lot to the comedic aspect of the film and he was truly funny. My hat also goes off to Judy Greer who always does an excellent job with her quirky roles and of course the very talented Oliver Platt. Overall, it was an ok movie. And even though I don’t really have anything particularly negative to say about the film I would still recommend waiting to see it on either DVD or cable.

I actually wanted to see this, I’m kind of disappointed you didn’t think it was too good =/
It’s not bad. It’s just not great. I had high hopes because I really like Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal. You should still see it though. Then let me know what you think.
P.S. I wouldn’t see this movie with your parents or grandparents. There’s a lot of naked in it.
no no no, you see it without them first, then you watch it with the whole family and leave the room right before the naked parts to create an awkward situation for my sister.
this is definitely a rental for me. i’ve already figured out what happens (looks super predictable), but i would’t pay to see i in theaters.
@ jake: that is hilarious. i’ll have to try that.
