Love & Sex

Kate Welles (Famke Janssen) writes for a women’s magazine and her latest assignment is on how to find and keep the perfect man. The only problem is that Kate is single and labels herself a relationship failure. Instead of turning in her original assignment, she submits a racy article (I”ll let you discover what it’s about). Needless to say, her editor is not amused and fires her on the spot. Kate begs for a second chance to complete her assignment and is granted another opportunity so long as she turns it in by the end of the day. In order to write “2500 happy, perky words” about relationships, Kate reminisces about all the men in her life, especially Adam Levy (Jon Favreau).

This is an older film that just barely avoids the Retro Review classification as it was released back in 2000. Nonetheless, this film is a secret little gem. It has everything a chick flick should have. It’s funny, clever, sweet and it also briefly touches on serious relationship issues. The back-and-forth banter between Kate and Adam is priceless. And most people can probably relate to some aspect of Kate’s many different failed relationships.

A good friend of mine recommended this movie a while back and I really enjoyed it. I’ve seen it quite a few times since then and it has made its way onto my list of favorite chick flicks. Hope you enjoy it too!

Hi! I'm Natalie. I enjoy a variety of movie genres (action, horror, comedy, drama, foreign, you name it), but there is a special place in my heart for true chick flicks.
