Marley and Me

displaymedia.phpSince my puppy Paisley turned one on sunday, I decided to do a review on Marley and Me.

Marley and Me is based on the book written by John Grogran.  Before I watched the movie, I wanted to read the book first, and it was one of the best books I have ever read.  I laughed out loud and sobbed like a baby.  The book and the movie are both revolved around the full life of a dog, in this case, a golden lab named Marley.

John and Jenny Grogran (Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston) have been married for a while and Jenny is insecure about if she can not keep a plant alive, how is she going to care for a baby.  For her birthday, John decides to take Jenny to a puppy farm where they pick out Marley.  Marley comes right to them, and they know he is perfect.  John goes back a couple of weeks later to pick him up, and so the fun begins.   John goes to pick up Jenny from the airport a couple days later, so he leaves Marley in the garage.  During this time, a big storm roles through, and Marley goes crazy.  When they return, the garage is in shambles, and Marley is a shaken mess.

As time goes on, Marley gets bigger and crazier, making everyone call him the ‘world’s worst dog.’  As the movie goes on, we see many crazy things that this dog gets into and eats, including a gold necklace.  As John and Jenny have kids and the family grows, so does Marley and his love for his family.  Because this movie is about a dog’s life, we unfortunatley see Marley grow old and eventually he passes on.  The last half hour or so is very sad, and dog lover’s should not watch it.

I really enjoyed Marley and Me.  The majority of the movie was funny and Marley really is a crazy dog, but that last half hour just hurts to see a dog go through that type of pain.  I have two dogs and I was very sad to know that one day my dog will go through this pain.  Overall, the movie was enjoyable for families.  I got a good laugh out of Marley’s hijinks and hope that my dog never pulls any of his crazy stunts!
