This romantic comedy will have you laughing throughout and is truly an enjoyable gem. Our Family Wedding embraces the concept of family and the culture that comes with it. This is a “feel good film” that incorporates the celebration of two cultures and the ability to laugh at the differences.
Lucia (America Fererra) and Marcus (Lance Gross) are a newly engaged couple with their whole lives ahead of them. There’s just one problem: now they have to tell their parents. When Lucia and Marcus announce the good news to their parents at dinner, they soon realize that their two egocentric fathers are not likely to accept one another and can easily make this wedding celebration a disaster. Brad (Forest Whitaker) and Miguel (Carlos Mencia) battle over the wedding details while Lucia’s mother (Diana Maria Riva) is fantasizing about making this her perfect wedding. Angela, played by Regina King (who is the prettiest woman in the world!) is Brad’s best friend and lawyer and seems to be the only level headed one out of the bunch.
Although there are ups and downs, the families learn to accept their differences and laugh at the craziness of the whole ordeal. Lucia and Marcus live out their dream wedding and become enmeshed in each others family culture. They both realize that when you marry someone, you truly marry their entire family!
Our Family Wedding is a fresh new idea for your typical romantic comedy. I loved the blending of these two worlds coming together and it made for some pretty laughable stereotypical concepts. The acting was picture perfect and I think America Ferrera is my new favorite! My fellow chick flick reviewers also enjoyed this movie, but noted that it may be targeted and more enjoyed by a middle-aged audience (or at least a ‘within marriage age’ audience). I agree.
