Our Idiot Brother

Our Idiot Brother

Call me an idiot, but I actually saw this film in theaters.

Our Idiot Brother is a comedy film surrounding the life of Ned (Paul Rudd).  Ned lived a happy hippie life selling organic vegetables at a local farm stand and getting high on the side.  Once arrested for selling his mary jane to a uniformed officer, Ned leaves prison and turns to his family for assistance.  With the title of the movie encompassing the complete synopsis of the film, Ned finds himself screwing up the life of everyone around him, and doesn’t even realize it.  While seeing his nonconformist organic life as a positive thing, his sisters only see him as the family idiot.

And that’s all I have to say about that.  No point to this movie, you say?  Well, you’re absolutely right!  Paul Rudd is quite the comedic genius and I felt he had nothing to work with in this film.  Rudd is really the only individual that actually made this film charming (in certain ways).  Sure he creates this likeable character, but one man cannot hold a movie together.  The surrounding characters were underdeveloped and I was losing interest quickly.  Unfortunately it is not a laugh-on-the-floor comedy, but I suppose it is a descent likeable one.
