This encapsulating documentary features the story of 52 men who have one dream: to be crowned the next Miss Gay America. Co-directors Ron Davis and Stewart Halpern capture the beauty of the Miss Gay America pageant (and a little drama that goes with it!) This contest forbids any use of hormones or body enhancements, therefore, this is truly the art of appearance. The film features the talent, skill, beauty, and hard work of the contestants during their journey to the crown. These female impersonators allow directors into their homes, lives, secret ambitions, and faults. I applaud the honesty of this film and truly admire the men who are fascinated by the world of female impersonation and strive to perfect it.
I highly recommend this documentary film. Pageant incorporates a new world and, to be honest, a pageant I really knew nothing about. As this was the 34th Miss Gay America pageant, I enjoyed the history of this cavalcade and learned to respect those who have made this pageant what it is today. I hope this is a celebration that will be continued and particularly recommend watching this film.
