Princess Protection Program

PPPAs Princess Rosalinda (Demi Lovato) is about to become Queen of Costa Luna a malicious dictator threatens to take over her tiny country forcing the princess into hiding. Luckily, the Princess Protection Program (PPP) was at the ready with Major Joe Mason (Tom Verica) sweeping the princess away to safety.

Princess Rosalinda is relocated to Louisiana to live with Major Joe and his daughter Carter (Selena Gomez). Princess Rosalinda has difficulty transforming into a (not so) normal teen named Rosie who is supposed to be Carter’s cousin from Iowa. Carter gets increasingly irritated with Rosie’s lack of normalcy and is not afraid to show her disgust of the “royal pain.”

Drama ensues as Rosie gains popularity at school. To make things worse, a battle for homecoming queen is also underway and evil high school queen bees Chelsea (Jamie Chung)  and Brooke (Samantha Droke) reek havoc.

Eventually Carter and Rosie bypass their differences and fend off queen bees and an evil dictator while bonding and learning from each other along the way. Carter teaches Rosie how to live like an ordinary American teen and Rosie helps Carter overcome her insecurities and find her “inner princess.”

As a former Disney Channel addict, I enjoyed this made for television movie. Princess Protection Program puts a twist on the life of royalty by submerging a princess into the life of rural Louisiana. On the contrary, the film is definitely for tweens and younger. It has the typical mean girls drama with a hottie crush and the not so realistic Princess Protection Program. It’s a fun idea and young girls will love it but anyone older than fourteen will be weary.

112568_433As Disney’s nice girls and real life besties, Demi and Selena are a breath of fresh air and are full of energy. How awesome would it be to film a movie with your bff? Also, I would much rather see this movie rise to fame over the High School Musical Series.

I would like to give two separate ratings for this film. For tweens and younger I would give Princess Protection Program a full four stars. Overcoming insecurities and making a difference in life is a great moral story for young girls. For teens and older, I would give two stars. Princess Protection Program is great for a night on the couch when you are flipping through channels looking for a movie to watch. In addition, this film would also be good for a mother-daughter movie night.

This is definitely a tween chick flick so please don’t force your boyfriend to watch it. They might throw a fit, especially if a football game is on instead.

this sounds way more important than football.

also, it left me nostalgic for the days of watching hour after hour of zenon, johnny tsunami, and that one with the pale blond alien girl that i can’t think of the name of right now. oh, and alley cats strike (where at the end they need to knock down two pins, one on each side, and that one girl has a special magic talent for that, and she like…blows on her finger, and saves the day?)!

gotta love disney channel originals. :)

So, next time you’re in O-town, you, me, Jenna and the Paula are gonna sit down and watch this one, Bri – you said…a good mother-daughter one! Maybe some Margaritas would make it even better. Been thinking about you…XOXO – but mostly hugs!
