Remember Me

When I first saw the previews for this film, it was a movie that I would not have been interested in. My sister went to the theater to see it and said that she liked it so much that I needed to see it, so I decided to order it on my netflix, and I have to agree with her.

Tyler Hawkins (Robert Pattinson) seems to live a troubled life. His brother Michael hung himself, his father (Pierce Brosnan) seems to hate his children that he has left, and his sister Caroline (Ruby Jerins) has a lot of trouble making friends at school. We see that Tyler has some anger issues as he gets involved in a fight downtown New York which leads him to getting taken down by a police officer (Chris Cooper) and taken to jail. His roommate Aidan (Tate Ellington) finds out that the police officer has a daughter that attends their school. He suggests for Tyler to get back at the officer by dating his daughter, Ally (Emilie de Ravin). Little did Tyler know how hard he was going to fall in love with Ally.

Ally and Tyler have a great summer together, and they both see each others troubled lives. Tyler’s father just does not get that how much he is hurting his two children that he has left because he does not spend any time with them and it breaks Caroline’s heart that her father does not come to her art show. It takes an accident at a sleepover for his eyes to open up and see what he has really been missing. Ally also learns the truth about why Tyler approached her, and leaves him to go back home to her father, but a surprise visit from makes her realize how much she misses him. This film ends in a way that is completely unexpected and shocking and ties the movie together perfectly at the end.

Remember Me is one of the best drama films that I have seen, as well as its significant love story between Ally and Tyler. The movie did start out very slowly, but once Ally and Tyler were together, the film picked up. There was conflict after conflict after conflict. The surprise ending really threw me through a loop, but I liked that it was so unexpected. If you are the kind of girl who likes drama and will be ready to shed some tears, this is a film for you!

Agreed, I was kind of expecting it to be just another sappy love story, and since I have yet to be sucked into the Pattinson fan club, I was just going to skip it.

I may have to change my mind also…

I agree w/ everyone. I first saw this preview and thought “no thanks!” It actually sounds like a drama film I could like. I hate sappy love stories, but this one sounds more tragic than lovey-dovey. Thanks for the review, Candice. I might have to rent this one after all!

I was really surprised by this movie, and in fact saw it a second time once out for rental to see all the clues I missed the first time. I made my husband watch it with me (he was not overly interested) and by the end he stated he hadn’t been so absorbed in a movie in a long time (even though he wouldn’t have picked it himself). Good character cast!!
