Top 5 Favorite Feel Good Love Storiesâ€
If you’re looking for an older film to check out, make it High Fidelity.
High Fidelity is a film based off of the book of the same name by Nick Hornby. It’s a hilarious and somber love story about Rob Gordon (John Cusack), a neurotic, music-obsessed romantic, who has just been dumped by his long-time girlfriend Laura (Iben Hjejle).
Rob decides to go where few people dare as he analyzes his “Top 5 Most Memorable Break-Ups†to determine whether or not there’s something that keeps causing him to lose the women he’s most crazy about. Joined by his indie-rock loving co-workers and friends, Barry and Dick (Jack Black & Todd Louiso), Rob works to get Laura back while trying to maintain his sanity and his record store.
This is not the prototypical love story that you’d expect Cusack to be a part of, especially given his flawless career of genre-defining romantic comedies in the 80’s. Instead, this movie really examines what it means to be hurt by someone close to you, and what it means to truly find out who you are and what you want.
It’s an enjoyable movie with a great soundtrack and a few clever twists on a common themed story. The actors are cast so well it’s as if you’re watching a movie about your friends. You can almost relate to Rob & his troubles as you would a close friend of your own. I’m always a fan of a movie if it can make me feel like I know the characters.
Overall, this movie gets the green light. Check it out if you’re out of options on your Netflix queue or if you’re interested in an instant classic. This movie is definitely on my “Top 5 Desert Island Chick Flicksâ€.

This has always been on my “have to see list”, but I have never gotten around to it. Thanks for the review…it’s inspired me to actually see it.
one of my faves, and one of jack black’s best performances
Nice to see this flick get some belated recognition; almost completely unappreciated at the time, I remember seeing it in the theatre [I'm a John Cusack fan from way back] and thinking: “Hey, this is some good sh!t… more people should see this!
