I think Seven Pounds has been added to our Netflix Queue for months and months and it’s just a movie I kept passing up. Desperate for a drama, I was fanning through our Netflix and had to convince myself to actually watch this one. I was transformed and completely taken aback as to how powerful this film was! It’s a shame I’ve put off watching this film for so long!
This drama is filled with secrets, twists, and turns, so I’m not going to tell you a whole lot about the movie, but I’ll give you a briefing. Ben (Will Smith) is living a life of torment and grief over a horrific event we (the audience) know nothing about. Ben is on a quest for redemption and chooses seven random people to help transform their lives. After learning that they are good solid individuals, Ben helps each and every one of the chosen seven to live a better longer-lasting life in order to redeem himself. Ben had no intentions of falling in love with one of the seven, Emily (Rosario Dawson). Ben demonstrates and learns the qualify of life and, in his own mind, feels a sense of vindication and is released from his torment.
By the end of Seven Pounds, I was sobbing. Literally. Not the kind of crying where you simply wipe away a tear. There was literal shaking of the shoulders and sucking in of air in order to calm myself down. It’s quite rare for me to cry throughout a film, but this one had me! This is such a powerful story, one that is unique and emotionally draining. Seven Pounds lost some points for me because I felt it was slowing down quite a bit in the middle, but the ending made up for it all. Will Smith and Rosario Dawson were flawless and I could not picture two better people to act out these characters. This is a movie that will make you take a look at life and the people in it, and will have you appreciate the art of story telling. If you, like me, have been passing this movie up over and over again…please stop! I insist you give this movie a look-see and be moved by the powerful concepts this movie provides. Great drama!

i kinda hated this movie. i totally didn’t get it. and i thought the acting was better than the story
I admit this was a not your ordinary film and it was, at times, hard to grasp. I’m glad you at least enjoyed the acting! Thanks for your opinion and response!
