Once upon a time (probably in junior high?) I read a Sherlock Holmes story. Though I vaguely remember it, I do recall enjoying the adventure and thinking that Holmes was a crazy character. Well, I had the privilege of attending a screening for Sherlock Holmes and I am excited to say that Director Guy Richie did a fantastic job bringing the story to life.
After a mystery drought, Detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) is challenged to solve a big magic induced murder mystery that is threatening the well-being of England. Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong) is the evil villain and Holmes must stop him from killing innocent bystanders and trying to take over the country.
The infamous duo, Holmes and his best comrade Dr. John Watson (Jude Law) set off to solve the mystery. Surprise deaths, a giant bad guy, a ginger dwarf and a malicious and manipulative Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams) are only part of their troubles on the mission to take down Lord Blackwood.
Sherlock Holmes is filled with tons of action and cleverly worded, yet candid, wit in addition to a cutesy, bickering bromance between Holmes and Watson. Robert Downey Jr, plays a perfect Sherlock Holmes while Jude Law is a superb Watson. The duo was very realistic in their roles and I don’t think anyone else could have done such a brilliant job. Likewise, Rachel McAdams portrays the ideal archenemy that Irene Adler is.
I thoroughly enjoyed Sherlock Holmes. In particular, I liked the way the film would feature slow motion action shots with Holmes narrating and analyzing his fight moves and then how it shows them fast-paced immediately after.
Sherlock Holmes is a great movie. It is fun and entertaining for all ages. I was a little bit wary that it might be more of a “guy†film but I was truly entertained the whole time. The only thing I didn’t care for was a slaughterhouse scene – it was definitely eye covering worthy!
Sherlock Holmes comes out Christmas Day so go see it! & enjoy!

ginger dwarf?!?
I’m actually surprised to hear this was good. The trailer doesn’t tell me much but I loved your review of it. Maybe I’ll check out the movie ove Christmas break
I saw this when it opened on Christmas day. I have to say that while I was already optimistic about the film, I was still really surprised by how good it was. It was really well written to start with, and the cast was just fantastic together. And I love how they made Holmes a really quirky and somewhat socially awkward genius, instead of the more prim and proper Sherlock I remember from the stories. Can’t wait for the next Holmes adventure!
