Soul Surfer is a film based on the autobiography written by Bethany Hamilton.  Bethany (AnnaSophia Robb) loves surfing more than anything in her life.  She even is home schooled since her parents, Tom (Dennis Quaid) and Cheri (Helen Hunt) were born to surf as well.  Bethany was just in the height of her career and had an offer from a surf company when her arm was ripped off by a shark during one of her surfing practices.  She was extremely calm for a young girl, and with God on her side, she made it through the attack, but with one less arm.  Bethany had to learn how to do many things one handed, such as making a sandwich, doing her hair, and of course, getting back on a board.  Time and time again she failed, but she did not want to give up and she entered another surf competition.  After not placing, she decided to give it up and turn to her religion for some answers.  She felt that there was a reason she should not be surfing, and she found her answer on a mission trip, leading her to help others and slowly get back on a board again.
Bethany Hamilton is such a great example for all of us. Â The book and movie are such great motivators and I feel that all teenage girls should read and see her story. Â We take things for granted until they are gone, and Bethany showed nothing but positiveness and made us realize how valuable our lives are. Â I thought it was a great film and most girls would enjoy it.
