Sound of Music (Sing Along)

Posted in Retro Reviews, Reviews by - October 21, 2010

I know what you are thinking, but the movie was exactly what they advertised, a sing along. I was actually shocked that I wasn’t the only person in the theater. The movie is running for a limited engagement, but if you are a Sound of Music fan, then you will appreciate the digitally remastered picture and sound.

The twenty minutes prior to the showing was spent getting a behind the scenes look at the history of the movie and how it actually came about. In the opening scenes the lyrics pop up on the bottom of the screen so that the audience can follow along. This could become very distracting if this is the first time someone is watching the movie.

Julie Andrews plays Frauline Maria who is a governess to the seven children in the Von Trapp Family. Maria helps the broken family heal through music. The family’s trials and tribulations are told through song and beautifully choreographed dances. In many ways the storyline is relevant to today, a family facing many difficult decisions sticks together to make it through.

The Sound of Music is a timeless classic and one of the most performed musicals to date.

Interesting way to promote “The Sound of Music.” Great classic film! Sounds corny, yet entertaining at the same time. Thanks for the review!
