The Accidental Husband

The Accidental HusbandThis movie is all about L-O-V-E!

Dr. Emily Lloyd (Uma Thurman) is an expert in love.  She is confident not only in herself, but the advice that she gives to many of the female listeners who tune in listen to her radio show.  She finds Mr. Perfect, Richard Bratton, (played by Colin Firth) and they plan to be married….  Well, so they thought.

The day they go to the courthouse to do the legal filing, Emily and Richard (Colin Firth) learn that Emily is already married which was caused by a “system glitch.”  She then is in search of her mystery husband, Patrick Sullivan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“Comedian” in Watchmen).  His bluntness Brooklyn attitude was the perfect offset to Emily’s proper and well-defined personality.  In the mist of Emily attempting to get Patrick to sign the annulment papers, he starts falling in love with Emily.

From surprise visits to unpredictable spontaneous moments, Emily finds that she too is falling for Patrick.  The cake tasting scene was one of the funniest, I thought, in the movie.  But my absolute favorite was the “love noogie” scene, which really kick-starts the humorous role-playing.

After Emily discovers Patrick’s motive in the “accidental” marriage, she finds herself vulnerable and for once she does not have advice for herself.  On the wedding day, Richard calls off the wedding, and Emily then gets whisked away from her fireman in the shiny red fire truck.

I definitely would recommend watching this film with your girlfriends rather than with your significant other.  I had mine watch it with me, and he was happy to say that the movie was not worth more than the $1.00 I spent to rent it at the Redbox.
