If you told me I’d watch a movie about a high school slacker for more than about ten minutes, I wouldn’t have believed you. But, surprisingly, this is pretty good.
Freddie Highmore has been through shrinks, meds, tutoring and all the rest but he still doesn’t care about school or life. He can spout charming philosophy about life being meaningless, but basically he’s just spoiled. Along comes Emma Roberts who breaks his heart, which isn’t such a bad thing. It may be what made him realize he had one in the first place.
He’s even willing to flunk out his senior year until something happens and his mom needs his support. It sort of jump starts his responsibility gene and he manages to do a year’s worth of homework in three weeks. A bit unbelievable, but still good. If you like arty, quirky movies, you might like this one. If you’re easily annoyed by spoiled teens, skip it.
