This true story is great for female athletes of all ages.
Jasmine Plummer (Keke Palmer) is an 11 year old girl that lives in a very small, run down town named Minden. Â She is very shy, keeps to herself and lives with her single mom Claire (Tasha Smith). Â Claire picks up more shifts at the town diner, and is worried about Jasmine. Â She asks Jasmine’s uncle Curtis (Ice Cube) to help out for a couple of hours a day after school. Â Curtis is having his own issues being unemployed and dealing with his mother’s death, but finally agrees. Â As Jasmine and Curtis’s relationship starts a bit rocky, they realize they really need each other. Â They help each other find love and bring the positives back into their lives. Â Curtis teaches Jasmine how to be a quarterback for the Minden Braves and he is finding himself being the male role model that Jasmine has been missing her whole life. Â With Jasmine’s great arm, Curtis convinces the coach of the football team to let Jasmine play, the team starts winning, and the Minden Braves make their way through the season and right to the Pop Warner Superbowl.
The Longshots is a true story of the first female quarterback to play in the Pop Warner Football League. There is so much encouragement and sportsmanship from this movie that every athlete should sit and watch it. Â It also sets a great example to show that girls can really do anything they set their heart to. Â This is a great movie to watch with your kids who play sports, or any female athlete. Â Any football fan will fall in love with this true and emotional story.
I give The Longshots 3 stars for a really great true story. Â It is a great movie to watch when sitting in on a weekend during football season while wrapped up in a blanket with some hot cocoa!

Power to the women!
Plus, Ice Cube is in this movie….could it get any better?
Is this a sequel to Friday?
