The Maiden Heist

Christopher Walken, Morgan Freeman and William H. Macy star in The Maiden Heist, a crime/comedy about three museum security guards who attempt to steal their favorite pieces of artwork when they discover their beloved exhibit is scheduled to move to a museum in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Roger (Christopher Walken) is the first of the three to hear the news.  During his shift one day, he stumbles across Charlie (Morgan Freeman) shedding a few tears as he gazes upon his favorite piece.  The two meet in a diner to discuss their sorrow over a cold glass of milk, where Charlie suggests the possibility of stealing the paintings.  Roger is quick to shoot him down but the discussion arises again when they discover woeful security guard number three, George (Williams H. Macy) admiring his favorite statue on a security tape.

George is an ex-Marine, you see.  He’s only interested in their amateur little plan if the boys are going to quit pooping around and get down to business.  Roger and Charlie agree to the heist, and so begins the story of three very ungraceful burglars and their plot to keep from parting with their prized pieces of art.

Walken, Freeman, and Macy did a fine job in The Maiden Heist.  It’s not a standout film for any of them in a good or bad way, it just seems like a film they probably had a lot of fun making.  Marcia Gay Harden also appeared as Walken’s wife, Rose, and did a great job.

Although entertaining, The Maiden Heist strikes a chord very similar to that of the Ocean’s 11 series which I found more entertaining.  The crime, the clumsy humor – very Ocean-esque.  However, the endings differ greatly.  The ending of Maiden is far sweeter, simpler, and humbler in comparison to Ocean’s glitz and glamour.

If you have an evening free and can’t decide what to watch, The Maiden Heist is worth a look-see.  You may be pleasantly surprised.

Hell-ooooooo! I'm Maribeth, I'm 27 and I love movies! I try to be optimistic in my reviews because someone, somewhere worked hard to complete every film, but there comes a time when you must call a spade a spade.
