In lieu of Halloween coming up this weekend and I hate scary movies, I decided to write a review on one of my favorite halloween movies as a child, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. As a child, I must have seen this movie thousands of times and used to sing along to the famous opening song, “This is Halloween.”
The movie opens up with a scene showing different trees with symbols for each holiday on them. We get taken into the tree with the pumpkin on it, which brings us to Halloween Town. There are all kinds of crazy creatures here singing and dancing that it is Halloween Night. Then we meet Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king. He puts on a good show and shows everyone how excited he is, when really he has become very bored doing the same routine every year. Jack and his dog zero take a long walk into the night and stumble upon the same set of trees that we see in the beginning of the movie. Jack becomes very curious and his eye catches the door with the christmas tree on it. He opens it up and discovers a whole new world for him to bring to Halloween Town. He presents this idea to the whole town, and gets to work trying to make Christmas the new Halloween. Everyone has their own special job to get ready and the whole town is in the spirit of this ‘Christmas’, except for Sandy. She tries to tell Jack many times that she thinks its a bad idea, but he does not listen. Santa Claus gets kidnapped and Jack takes off on Christmas Eve in his sleigh. With his dog zero guiding the way they deliver scary gifts to children all over the world. Jack realizes as he is doing this, that the children are not happy and he needs to make things right. Jack releases Santa to do his job, and Santa leaves Halloween Town with their very first snowfall.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a great halloween movie for the whole family. The animation is great, and I love the plot of the story. You get to enjoy two holidays at once! Everyone will want to sing along to this movie and watch it over and over! When you are all done trick-or-treating this Halloween, pop in this great dvd, and enjoy!

Good flick! One of my faves!
sadly, i had never seen this film…until tuesday night when i saw it in 3d in hollywood! i am so amazed by claymation. jack is such an interesting character, because he messes everything up, but he only always has good intentions. i’m glad i finally got a chance to watch this!
