SYNOPSIS

“Our marriage, their wedding.” It’s lesson number one for any newly engaged couple, and Lucia (America Ferrera) and Marcus (Lance Gross) are no exception. In Fox Searchlight Pictures’ OUR FAMILY WEDDING, they learn the hard way that the path to saying “I do” can be rife with familial strife. When they return from college and too suddenly announce their marriage plans, they soon discover that their fathers – two highly competitive over-the-top egos – can wreak a major amount of havoc on their special day.

With insults flying and tempers running high, it’s anyone’s guess if the alpha dads (Forest Whitaker and Carlos Mencia) will survive to make it down the aisle in one piece. Lucia’s mother (Diana Maria Riva) is busy planning the wedding of “her” dreams and the only levelheaded one in the bunch is Angela (Regina King), the groom’s father’s best friend and lawyer, who manages to keep her cool when the madness reaches a crescendo.

With only weeks to plan their wedding, Lucia and Marcus soon discover the true meaning of love and find there is truth to the saying – that when you marry someone, you marry their entire family.

OUR FAMILY WEDDING is directed by Rick Famuyiwa from an original screenplay written by Rick Famuyiwa, Malcolm Spellman, and Wayne Conley. The film is produced by Ed Saxon and Steven Wolfe. Linda Burton (CADILLAC RECORDS) is the production designer, the director of photography is Julio Macat (WEDDING CRASHERS) with costume designer Hope Hanafin ([500] DAYS OF SUMMER), Editor Dirk Westervelt (NOTORIOUS) and music composed by The Transcenders (“Gossip Girl”).

At a family wedding my mom made the wedding cake (she entered cake competitions as a hobby and made lots of other cakes but this was the first and only wedding cake she ever did). The caterer accidentally bumped into the table and the cake fell. Luckily with the frosting she had on hand she was able to fix the tiers back to where it wasn’t noticeable for pictures, but she never made another wedding cake again.

We had a multi cultural wedding ourselves, my cousin married a girl who’s family’s heritage is Indian. Our Cuban familly and her Indian family meshed very well at the wedding. They had hidden their relationship from both families for awhile, some of us were suspicious that he was gay and was afraid to come out about it. No one reacted dramatically about the relationship like he suspected, it wasn’t the first multicultural relationship in our family. So when his best man and older brother gave his wedding toast at the wedding, he began with “I cannot believe that Danny is finally getting married….. to a woman.” The reception roared with laughter.

Below is the link to the speech and a dance my cousin and I performed. It’s traditional at Indian weddings for there to be a performance, we tried our best trying to mesh our two sides as best as possible.

Some year back at a VERY upscale wedding I saw my FI friend got drunken and take all of his clothes off at the end of the marriage reception and then he ran around the entire hotel TOTALLY NAKED and laughing like anything. He would hide around corners and run up behind total strangers. It took security about an hour to catch him. awesome. My FI wants him to come to our wedding. not awesome!!!

At our reception the Caterers got lost getting there and were late. Luckily for us the World Cup game was on and the majority of the people went to watch it on the big screen TV at the place we were at.

At my wedding reception, my brother-in-law who served as the best man was giving his toast. He is very afrocentric about everything. But we got him to wear a tux for the event. As he was giving his toast, he poured out champaigne on the carpet of the reception room in honor of “the ancestors”. I was completely mortified and definitely had to do some free publicity so that they would not charge me to clean the spot!

my dad walked me down the aisle with his fly down. the end.
