Imagine yourself living in the beginning. Â The very beginning. Â What do you see? Â Loin cloths? Â Necklaces made of a bear’s teeth? Â Popping a squat wherever you please to relieve yourself? Â Perhaps bathing once a year? Â Allow me to introduce you to Year One. Starring Jack Black and Michael Cera, this film takes you back to a time of hunters and gatherers, high priests and princesses, pharaohs and shepherds. Â Jack Black and Michael Cera (Superbad, Juno, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) play Zed and Oh, two members of a hunting & gathering tribe who flee when Zed is banished after eating the forbidden fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil. Â Along their journey they encounter all sorts of interesting characters. Â They witness Cain killing Abel, they prevent Abraham from burning his son, Isaac, on the altar of sacrifice, and they become enslaved only to end up in Sodom, where they find the rest of their tribe has been enslaved also. Â Determined to free their people and rescue the women they love, Zed and Oh create a diversion and win the fight that earns them the respect and admiration of the entire city.
If you’re a fan of Jack Black humor, Year One will not disappoint. Â Unlike so many films of this sort, not all of the funny parts are spoiled by the trailers; and the ones that are are still just as funny when you see them in the context of the picture itself. I sometimes find myself torn when it comes to Jack Black’s projects, such as Nacho Libre - I was not impressed. Â Year One, however, contains a good combination of dry sarcasm and goofiness. Â I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times =)
As for Michael Cera, I have yet to see him in a role that he did not portray well.  He’s young, he’s talented, and he’s making quite a name for himself.  As a fresh, innocent face in the film industry, he’s gaining recognition quickly and I look forward to seeing more from him in the future.
Year One was released on DVD on October 6th. Â For a light-hearted, all around good-humored film, this is a good one to add to your NetFlix queue. Â Pop yourself some popcorn, sit back and enjoy! =)

I wanted to see this one. I was skeptical…but I trust you and will give it a shot!
