It’s time to “nut up or shut up.”
I’m a big fan of zombie movies but I definitely did not have high expectations for Zombieland. However, after hearing good reviews about this comedic zombie infested film, I just had to see it.
This movie took a different approach at the “Zombie” genre. The film begins in Texas with a college student named Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) who is stuck in zombieland america not knowing if there are any other human survivors. He is trying to make his way back to Columbus, Ohio to see if his parents are still alive. Columbus was able to survive the zombie takover because he lived by a certain set of survival rules that he had come up with during the struggle to overcome the zombie infestation. Some of these important rules include such things as “Cardio” and my personal favorite… the “Double Tap.” The Double Tap is when you knock a zombie down with a gunshot or any other way and then basically finsh them off with some sort of blow to the head. The survival tips end up playing an essential and highly entertaining part in the film.
Surprisingly, Columbus runs into another human on his way to Columbus. This twinkie-obsessed-zombie-assasin is Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson). Partnering up they begin to road trip east while battling zombies and searching for twinkies along the way. Then, they run into the con couple Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin). The two sisters (Wichita & Little Rock) hijack Columbus and Tallahassee’s weapons and vehicle and continue on to their (supposedly zombie free) LA amusement park destination. Car troubles force the sisters to stall on the road and find themselves face-to-face with Columbus and Tallahassee once again. Trust issues reside amongst the guys and girls but the guys end up joining the girls on their trip out west.
Eventually Columbus starts getting too attached to Wichita. His random lifelong desire is to brush a girls hair behind her ears. Columbus learns that his hometown was taken over and finally realizes that these three people are the closest thing he has to a family. After coming to a truce, the four make it to Hollywood and decide it’s the perfect time to stop and rest in what they thought was a deserted Beverly Hills mansion of Tallahassee’s movie star idol. Whose mansion is this do you ask? You’ll have to go see the movie to find out. (I was very excited about this surprise because I am also a big fan of this actor!) After a run in with this surprise zombie diguised movie star, the fantastic four find themselves amidst a massive amusement park zombie attack.
Jesse Eisenberg kind of reminds me of a Michael Cera character. This was the first time I’ve ever seen him in a movie but I really enjoyed it. Kudos to you Jesse! He played a well-rounded character and was the perfect sidekick for Tallahassee. It was also quite entertaining to watch his character live by his rulebook. Woody Harrelson did an amazing job in this movie. This is the best role he’s played since White Men Can’t Jump. His zombie killing bad ass attitude keeps you wondering what he’s going to do next. I never thought I’d see the sweet little girl from Little Miss Sunshine in a zombie movie but she played it off really well, and she can really handle a shotgun. This girl is going to have a long career in Hollywood. I was curious to see what would evolve of Emma Stone‘s career after Superbad. She did an excellent job as a zombie ass kicking protective older sister.
This movie is definitely suitable for guys and gals. The zombie killings are not all that bad, I think my fiance only turned her head a couple of times, which is good for her. She really enjoyed the film as well and we both mutually agreed on a 4 star rating.

i know who the surprise guest is, because you ruuuuuuuuuined it on twitter! way to go.
but he is one of my favorites, too!
